Ref.5971P-001
Perpetual calendar Chronograph with Diamonds
Model announced in 2007
The perpetual calendar chronograph is considered Patek Philippe's flagship model.
The Ref. 5971P-001 we are introducing this time is a perpetual calendar chronograph model set with baguette-cut diamonds, a specialty of Patek Philippe.
The perpetual calendar chronograph featuring baguette diamonds began with the Ref. 3990-010, and has since been passed down to the Ref. 5971P-001 and Ref. 5271P-001, with the design continuing to this day.
Recently, production of the current 5271P was sadly discontinued, so the 5971P is becoming more and more popular.
This 5971P is the last baguette diamond model equipped with the basic movement (almost entirely modified by PP), made by Nouvelle Lemania, a famous ébauche maker that is an indispensable item for Patek Philippe collectors.
The bezel and the 12 o'clock index on the dial are adorned with a total of 43 gorgeous baguette diamonds (4.39 carats), giving off an unparalleled sense of luxury.
The dial is finished in black lacquer, giving it a gorgeous and unique luster, and is cleverly laid out to harmonize with the baguette-cut diamonds set as a focal point.
The 5971 is only available in one material, platinum, making it an extremely valuable model.
First of all, the assembly of a perpetual calendar chronograph requires the highest level of skill from a skilled watchmaker.
The technique of gem-setters to set baguette-cut diamonds into platinum, the most expensive and difficult to work with precious metal, is separate from the technique of assembling a watch.
Baguette cut diamonds, which are particularly angular, are most susceptible to chipping during the process of aligning the table surface to a perfectly uniform flatness, which also requires the highest level of skill.
Even the best gem setters must set the 42 baguette-cut diamonds in the platinum bezel with repeated failed attempts before they can achieve the perfect setting.
It takes more than ordinary patience to produce this model. It is different from the normal model, so it makes sense that the production volume will be extremely small.
This is a masterpiece that represents the company, completed by bringing together the skills of each of its finest craftsmen.
It also symbolizes the generational change from Chairman Philippe Stern to President Thierry Stern since 2004.
