ŌTSUKA LŌTEC
NO.5 KAI

ŌTSUKA LŌTEC is an independent Japanese mechanical watch brand founded in 2012 in Otsuka, Tokyo by product designer Jiro Katayama, who has also worked on designs for Toyota cars. The brand is known for its rugged, industrial design and unique mechanisms such as jumping hours.
Despite being produced in small quantities, this brand is highly regarded internationally, with models housed in the National Museum of Nature and Science, and in 2024 it was awarded the "Contemporary Master Craftsman" award and won the Grand Prix at the GPHG (Grand Prix de la Horlogerie de Genève). This is a brand by an independent Japanese watchmaker that is currently attracting attention.

Katayama is responsible for all aspects of production, from design, engineering, to assembly.
The "No. 5 Kai" we are introducing today is the successor to the "No. 5" released at the company's founding in 2012, and follows the design of the No. 5. However, instead of the regulator for the disc display of the No. 5, it has a unique satellite hour mechanism in which two reduction gears that move the hour display disc are arranged vertically and are placed directly against a ball bearing roller at the 8 o'clock position to switch the discs, adding visual enjoyment to the movement and giving depth to the mechanism with a bold and unique concept, and feeling like an evolution from the No. 5.

The design essence, reminiscent of Audemars Piguet's Star Wheel and Harry Winston's Opus 5, gives it a sense of Swiss watchmaking that has not been seen in purely Japanese-made watches until now.
