Ref.228235 Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 When it was first introduced in 1956, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date was the only watch that displayed the day of the week in full spelling in more than 20 languages, in addition to the date. Combining Rolex's fundamental elements of timekeeping accuracy, water resistance, and automatic winding, the Day-Date is available only in precious metals (not stainless steel), in 36 mm or 40 mm sizes, and features the unique and iconic President bracelet. The dial used in this model is set with 10 baguette-cut diamonds and features a dial made from "Eisenkiesel," a dark brown decorative stone that Rolex first introduced in 2021. Eisenkiesel is a type of quartz with delicate striped patterns containing iron oxide. Disc-shaped pieces of the stone are cut from the raw material block for the dial and set in Everose gold, which has a harmonious color match. This is a rare and distinctive model in a brown color, even for a company with a proven track record of using a wide variety of natural stones on its watch dials.
